Self-portraits
The self-portrait is a glance at who you are in a moment of time. For the artist it is a convenient way of studying the human face, to me the most fascinating image on the planet. When I was young and just starting to draw, I would sit before a mirror and map out my face in order to better understand just how it was put together. Rembrandt painted about forty self-portraits,Van Gogh over thirty. These are records of history, of autobiography, psychology, and of art. Our faces show us the ever-changing landscapes of our lives.
