Sketchbook
I found this bird in our side yard, abandoned and disoriented. I was not sure what type it was until I called like a mourning dove, and it began to peep in response. We kept it until it was mature enough to be free.

Two sketchbook entries: When I sketch a concept for only myself, it’s usually crude, just enough to capture the idea. For the finished drawing, I referred to a curled leaf I found in the woods. This drawing also appears on my website title page.

Ravel’s Menuet sur le nom D’Haydn, played on our baby grand by Steve Fong.
This favorite piano piece of mine uses Haydn’s name as a five-note motif.
